The judicial administrative body of the US state of Georgia comprises of Supreme Court of Georgia, Georgia Court of Appeals, Superior Court, and several Federal Courts. Georgia Court imparts fair judgment to all its citizens.
Georgia Court comprises of several judicial councils like Georgia Council of Court Administrators and Probation advisory Council.
Supreme Court of Georgia
The highest judicial body of the US state of Georgia is the Supreme Court. The court came into existence in the year 1845 and comprised of a 3 member panel. The number of justices increased with passing years. In the recent days the elections of the Supreme Court justices are done on non partisan basis. Alike the fellow justices of the court select the Supreme Court of the other states in United States, the Chief Justice. Joseph Henry Lumpkin is the first person who assumed the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Georgia Court of Appeals
Georgia Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court in the state. The jurisdiction authority of the court is limited in comparison to appellate courts of other states in US.
Superior Court of Georgia
It is the general trial court of Georgia. It exercises jurisdiction over felony cases, land dispute cases and divorce cases. It also has juridical powers over matters related to habeas corpus, mandamus, quo warranto and prohibition. The Superior Court has the responsibility to correct errors made by the lower courts; in this regards they can issue writs of certiorari. This court, organized into 10 judicial districts, comprises of 49 judicial circuits. A chief judge is responsible for handling the administration of a particular judicial circuit.
Judicial Courts of Georgia
State Courts, Probate Court, Juvenile Court, Magistrate Court, and Municipal Court are the other judicial bodies of the state of Georgia.
Federal Courts of Georgia
The federal courts situated in Georgia are United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia and United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.
State Bar of Georgia
The State Bar of Georgia was created with the aim to improve judicial administration in the state, to advance science of law and to foster among legal professional the principles of duty and dedicated service to the people of Georgia. The attorneys of Georgia should be a recognized member of State Bar of Georgia if they want to practice law in the state. This organization has the responsibility to maintain Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct and has the right to institute disciplinary actions against any kind of violation, public reprimand, disbarment, suspension and formal admonition of an attorney.
Georgia Council of Court Administrators
The aim of this organization is to improve the administration of justice in the state. They assist the court administrators and managers in execution of their duties and responsibilities. They also impart training to these people. GCCA stages two annual conferences for imparting educational training.
