The United States District Court for the District of Kentucky came into being through the Judiciary Act of 1789. It is recognized as one of the original 13 courts created by this statute. The district court of Kentucky for the Western District primarily meets in Louisville. Federal sessions also take place in courthouses in Owensboro, Bowling Green, and Paducah.
