Alabama District Court Records

The district courts of the United States are trial courts that fall under the system of federal courts. The Congress under the provision of the United States Constitution establishes the district courts of the United States. These courts exercise l jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters that fall under the federal categories.

There are three district courts in the state of Alabama. These are Alabama District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, Alabama District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, and Alabama District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.

Cases from all the Alabama District courts can be appealed at the Court of Appeals of the Eleventh Circuit of the United States. These courts hear both civil and criminal cases.

Alabama District Court for the Nothern District has jurisdiction over the following counties- Blount, Bibb, Clay, Calhoun, Cherokee, Colbert, Cleburne,Cullman, Etowah, De Kalb,Franklin, Fayette, Greene, Jefferson, Jackson , Lamar, Lawrence, Lauderdale, Limestone, Marion, Madison, Marshall, Morgan, Randolph, Pickens, Shelby, Sumter, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, Talladega, Winston and Walker counties. The cities of Huntsville, Birmingham, Decataur and Tuscaloosa also fall under the jurisdiction of the Northern District courts of Alabama. Alice H. Martin is the present state attorney for the Northern District of Alabama district court, representing the state in all matters ofcivil and criminal cases .

The jurisdiction of Alabama District Court for the Middle District of Alabama extends to Autauga, Bullock, Barbour, Butler, Coffee, Chilton, Chambers, Coosa, Crenshaw, Covington, Dale, Elmore, Henry, Geneva, Houston, Lowndes, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Russell, Pike and Tallapoosa counties. Its jurisdiction also covers Montgomery city. Leura Garett Canary is the present state attorney for Middle District of Alabama district court who represents the state in criminal as well as civil litigations.

Alabama District court for the Southern District of Alabama exercises jurisdiction over Baldwin, Clarke, Choctaw, Conecuh, Dallas, Hale, Escambia, Marengo, Monroe, Mobile, Perry, Wilcox and Washington counties. Apart from these counties its jurisdiction extends to Mobile city. The present state attorney for the Southern district of Alabama is Deborah J. Rhodes who represents the southern district on all litigation concerning civil and criminal matters.
