Eighth District Courts
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas is further subdivided into six divisions, which collectively cover 41 Arkansas counties. The United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas is a district court with jurisdiction over the western half of the state of Arkansas. Criminal cases heard by district Courts include felonies, some misdemeanors and lesser-included offenses. Civil cases heard by district Courts include general civil claims for more than $5000 and civil equity claims.
The United States District Court for the District of North Dakota is the United States District Court or the Federal district court, whose jurisdiction is the state of North Dakota. District Courts have general jurisdiction over all civil and criminal cases, and generally do not handle trials for municipal ordinance violations that are within the jurisdiction Municipal Courts. District Courts handle all criminal cases, and may handle municipal ordinance violations cases transferred from Municipal Courts if a right to a jury trial exists and a proper request is made. District Courts handle all civil cases, including general civil, domestic relations, juvenile, mental health and probate matters.
