Washington DC Court Appeals

The Washington DC Court Appeals are heard at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. This has been designated as the highest of the court of district and had been established in 1970. The Washington DC Circuit Court of Appeals is equivalent to the State's Supreme Court as far as judicial powers are concerned. As a court of authority the Washington DC Court Of Appeals can review all Washington DC Court Appeals, judgments regarding all Washington DC Court Cases as well as specified Court of Appeals of Washington DC Superior Court. Settling Washington DC County Appeals also lies within its jurisdiction. The Washington DC Court of Civil Appeals is also authorized to review certain decisions made by administrative agencies and boards. It can also settle Washington DC Court Appeals and legal queries certified by the Federal and state appellate courts.

A three-judge division bench normally hears Washington DC Court Civil Appeals unless otherwise specified. The same rule is applied for Washington DC Court Criminal Appeals. All the nine judges of this court are required to hear Washington DC Criminal Appeals only if they prove to be particularly complex. Exceptional civil appeals may also require an en banc sitting of the judges.
